Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will shine the spotlight on many athletes during the spring and summer.

With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.

PLAYER: Luckenson Bernadin
YEAR: 2011
SCHOOL: South Broward
CITY: Hollywood
POSITION: PK
HEIGHT: 5-9
WEIGHT: 170
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: Allen Held

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: About this time every year, we start to hear rumblings out of St. Thomas Aquinas about the Raiders new kicking prospect. This year, while it's the same district as St. Thomas Aquinas plays in, the top kicking prospect just may be wearing yellow, red and white.

For the past two years, Bernadin has been showing glimpses of becoming an outstanding kicking prospect. In the spring of his sophomore year, he booted a 57-yard field goal, which caught the attention of several players and coaches.

Last year, he was once again looked at by a number of colleges who were impressed by his accuracy and leg strength. In the spring, there was more attention being paid to him.

Perhaps, the real coming out was this summer when he dazzled fellow kickers and coaches during a camp. His leg strength and accuracy earned him praise from coaches who believe he could end up being one of the top senior kickers in South Florida!
