Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will shine the spotlight on many athletes during the spring and summer.
With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.
PLAYER: Marvin Jean
SCHOOL: Dr. Krop
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: David Hudson
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Over the past two years, there may not have been a more impressive defensive play maker than this quality athlete who has registered over 200 tackles and shown leadership at a young age.
While his size doesn't dictate that he will play linebacker at the next level, his play on the field, where he has dominated from his linebacker spot, says that the position certainly suits his talents and his all-out play on every down.
One of the true leaders on the football field, there is no denying that when the Lightning needed a big play last year during an impressive run in the playoffs, this was the athlete who came up with the stop. he has quickness and is one of the strongest players on the team.
While linebacker does look like the position he will spend the rest of his high school career at, many colleges we spoke to agreed that he will play safety at the next level, and with his ability to drop back in pass coverage and make key plays against the run, he is really on the way to playing the position into the future.
