Three of the top linebackers in the country reside in South Florida.
Coral Gables' Denzel Perryman, Boyd Anderson's Kent Turene and Plantation's Ryan Shazier were each named to the Dick Butkus High School Award national watch list.
The award is given to the nation's top linebacker and is chosen from a group of 51 candidates from around the country just like its college counterpart.
The semifinalists will be announced October 21 at a Butkus Charity Fight Night at Soldier Field in Chicago. The finalists will be announced November 23 and the winner will be annuounced by December 8.
Perryman was The Miami Herald's Defensive Player of the Year last season with 126 tackles for Coral Gables. Turene recently committed to USC after a summer of excellence at several camps. Shazier was one of Broward's best defensive players last year, leading the Colonels to the playoffs.
