On Wednesday night (9-10) on WQAM (560 AM), Larry Blustein and Mike Levine have an impressive lineup of guests.
Joining the show this week are Miami Southridge safety Gerod Holliman, Miami Christopher Columbus head coach Chris Merritt and longtime recruiting analyst Jamie Newberg.
HOLLIMAN IS ONE OF THE BEST
There are some impressive football players in the state of Florida, but very few have the skill level and athletic ability like Holliman, who is considered by many as the top safety in South Florida.
The 6-0, 185-pounder Ole Miss commitment has gotten the Spartans off to a perfect 2-0 start as they prepare for a huge district matchup against the South Dade team that knocked them out of the playoffs and handed them their only loss in the past two years.
Holliman and teammate Andrew Johnson chose Ole Miss over impressive programs such as FSU, West Virginia, Louisville, Nebraska, Maryland and more.
UNBEATEN AFTER THREE GAMES
When you lose so many quality players, including 80 percent of your offense, being 3-0 after the first three games of the season has Coach Merritt and his Explorers marked down as one of the major surprises in South Florida.
A perennial district champion, the Explorers will look to get off to a 4-0 start against Miami High at 4:00 on Thursday.
Merritt has this year's team playing very good with the defense shutting the door on the first three opponents, which include Palmetto, rival Belen Jesuit before 13,000 fans and last week, South Dade!
NEWBERG ON THE MOVE
For over two decades, Newberg has been one of the most respected figures on the national recruiting scene.
Having worked for a number of recruiting websites throughout the years, Newberg's Countdown To Signing Day was one of the most watched and anticipated recruiting shows.
Today, Newberg, a St. Petersburg resident and native, is working for ESPN, where he is on a weekly panel TV show, BLOGS for ESPN's recruiting page and appears as a guest on numerous radio shows across the country.
His ESPN job sends Newberg all over the southeast and into Texas.
