JACKSONVILLE – St. Thomas Aquinas and Manatee appear to be on a collision course to decide who will be crowned the overall #1 team in the state of Florida.
The Raiders and Hurricanes have met each other in the state semi-finals three of the last five years with St. Thomas winning two of those matchups. Last year Manatee eliminated the Raiders and snapped a 33 game winning streak with a 28-20 victory.
Should the two meet next week, it would mark the fourth time in the 15-year history of the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Top 25 that #1 and #2 have met.
Armwood holds third place followed by Cocoa and Orlando Dr. Phillips is fifth.
In fact, the first nine teams in the Top 25 stayed the same, with Lakeland moving to 10th after Jacksonville Bolles was beaten by #14 Trinity Catholic of Ocala 35-21. The Celtics were one the biggest movers, jumping five spots in the poll. Fleming Island of Orange Park was the biggest mover, moving six spots to #18 after beating Jacksonville First Coast (#15 in last week’s poll) 27-25 on a blocked punt that set up a late field goal.
Entering the poll this week were five teams. Pre-season #1 Tampa Plant came back into the poll after a nine-week absence, at #20, followed by Miami Norland at 22, Island Coast High School of Cape Coral checked in at 23, followed by Nova Southeastern’s University School in Davie at #24 and Gainesville is #25.
The Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Top 25 is Florida’s only all-classification poll and runs through the end of the season. It is voted on by sportswriters and broadcasters who cover high school football and released each week by Youth Sports Marketing LLC.

I WOULD PUT MIAMI CENTRAL AND PALM EACH DWYER AGAINST ANY TEAM LISTED AND IF THEY BOTH BROUGHT THEIR A GAME. I THINK THEY WOULD WIN. I LIKE ST. THOMAS AND HOPE THEY PREVAIL, BUT I THINK MANATEE, MIGHT BEAT THEM. I'M NOT SURE IF THAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED AND UPSET OR NOT. PSALMS 31
