RAIDERS NO. 1 IN ESPN RISE AS WELL
For the second time in three years, a loss by Trinity (Euless, Texas) has helped lift St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) to the final No. 1 position in the POWERADE FAB 50 national football rankings.

The difference this year is the Raiders had to wait out a pulsating Texas Class 5A Division I state championship played Saturday night at Cowboys Stadium.

After winning its own Class 5A championship over Plant (Tampa, Fla.), 29-7, St. Thomas Aquinas ended its season at 15-0, but were not No. 1 yet.

Trinity entered its final game No. 1, but lost to Pearland (Pearland, Texas), 28-24, in a matchup of undefeated teams that drew more than 43,000 fans.

In the 2008 season, Trinity was No. 1 in the FAB 50 before losing in an earlier round of the Texas state playoffs to Allen (Allen, Texas). St. Thomas Aquinas then took over and finished by dominating Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.), 56-7, to win a Class 4A state crown.
