As National Signing Day is now two weeks away, decisions are being finalized for athletes throughout the country, and the Maroone High School Gridiron Report will bring you closer to the action this Thursday night (9-10).
Larry Blustein will welcome in an impressive list of key guests on WQAM (560), including University School linebacker Justin Cooper, Homestead defensive end/outside linebacker Ricardo Williams and Scout.com recruiting analyst Mike Bakas.
HEADED TO TEXAS - TECH
There aren't many high school football players who have gone from Florida to Texas Tech over the years, but when Tommy Tuberville arrived in Lubbock, he has used the Sunshine State as a place to get athletes, and when the 6-1, 205-pound Cooper had the chance to play for the Red Raiders, it was simply too good to pass up.
A key member of the state 2B runner-up Suns, Cooper is athletic and is a perfect fit for Texas Tech, which recruited receiver Sean Corker last year from Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons.
HIDDEN NO LONGER
During the past two years, Williams was looked at by several schools, projecting what the 6-5, 215-pounder would be like when he filled out. Well, first year head coach Al Golden and his staff made this impressive athlete a priority when they arrived at the University of Miami.
Even though he is projected as an OLB in this current scheme, many believe when he grows into the position, this cat-quick athlete, who has worked as hard as any high school player in South Florida, will be a defensive end.
CHARTING THE STATE OF FLORIDA
Whether it's been at games, practices or at the many combines and 7-on-7 events he has attended, Bakas has followed the state of Florida for the past decade, giving fans a preview of some of the best athletes in the country.
Running the very successful Canestime.com website as a member of the Scout.com network, Bakas has been able to keep a close eye on the University of Miami, providing information that fans have been impressed with.
The Bakas Combines have also exposed players for the future.
