SF Express 7-on-7 tryout weekend

For the past two years, Brett Goetz has assembled some of the best high school football talent in South Florida for a 7-on-7 team that has been getting national attention.

With the South Florida Express winning the national championship last year, beating some of the elite programs and players in the country, this season promises to be even better.

With every player on last year's team getting ready to sign on the dotted line and head off to college, the next wave of South Florida Express players will step up during a two day tryout that is coming up this Saturday and Sunday at Hallandale Senior High School (720 NW 9th Ave, Hallandale Beach 33009).

"This thing has gotten huge," said Goetz, who treated players to a special trip on the way to the national tournament in Alabama last season. "Every top player wants to be a part of this team because of the unreal exposure they receive."

Indeed, the South Florida Express is the team that has easily received the most exposure over the past two years from local media such as WQAM Radio and the Miami Herald - and from fan websites such as Scout.com, Rivals.com, ESPN and Sports Illustrated where veteran writer Andy Staples followed the team on the national championship trip and wrote a major piece.

"There are a lot of teams to play for in the region and in the state of Florida," Goetz pointed out. "But when you look at the exposure, coaching and big time atmosphere that surrounds this team, it's really the place to be."

If you are a player who believes you can add something to the South Florida Express, registration starts on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 4 p.m.. The camp will begin at 5:15 p.m.

The camp is open to all 2012, 2013 and 2014 high school football prospects. Registration fee is $20. Only 250 spots available, so be there early to register.

On Super Bowl Sunday, 40 players will be selected to return at 11A.M. to compete to make the 24 man South Florida Express Travel All Star Team.

"Even though there are so many talented football player who have already committed to play for us, you never know if we are missing a top-flight player who can help us repeat," Goetz said. "These players just love the elite competition, and that's why we did so well the past two years.
