Bush, Howard and Meiklejohn on radio

The Maroone High School Gridiron Report gets defensive on Thursday night on WQAM (560 AM) from 9-10.

Two of the top defensive backs in the country join Larry Blustein and Mike Leavine for an hour of high school football talk. Miami Christopher Columbus standout Deon Bush and Miramar's Tracey Howard join the show along with the Recruiting Doctor, Dr. Todd Meiklejohn.

BUSH IS THE REAL DEAL
Following in the talented footsteps of his older brother, Gary, who starred at Columbus before heading to Purdue University, Bush has been the talk of the Class of 2012 in his appearances at combines and 7-on-7 tryouts so far this early spring.

Bush has been regarded as one of the emerging players since his ninth grade year for head coach Chris Merritt and the Explorers.

Not only is he one of the top prospects in Miami-Dade County, but has been looked at by some of the most elite programs in the country.

He is also a member of the defending national champion South Florida Express 7-on-7 team.

THE BEST OF THE BEST
There is little doubt that no matter who you talk to, Howard is considered one of the best cover-corner prospects in the nation.

The impressive standout will enter his third year as a starter for head coach Damon Cogdell and the Patriots, who won the 6A state title two years ago with Howard making a major impact.

Rated as the No. 1 player in Broward County and top 5 in the state, this is yet another quality athlete who has every college and university watching his every move.

Like Bush, he is also a key player for the talent-laden South Florida Express 7-on-7 team.

THE DOCTOR IS IN
As a football player and wrestler back in the day at powerhouse Miami Southridge, Dr. Todd Meiklejohn went through the growing period of being an athlete and searching for that elusive college scholarship.

From grades to making in impression on the athletic field, he learned and took in everything during his own recruiting process.

Over the past few years, as an educator and as a parent who had a son go through the entire recruiting process from a ninth grader at Miami Coral Reef to Westminster Christian, and finally to the University of Central Florida, Meiklejohn picked up some very valuable facts about the entire process that everyone should know.

In addition to writing a very informative book (“Moving the Chains: A Parent’s Guide to High School Football Recruiting”) that every parent, coach and athlete should have, Meiklejohn is also hosting a total Football Combine experience on Mar. 26 in North Miami.
