There were so many reasons for Cardinal Gibbons linebacker Erick Hallmon to commit to Texas Tech on Sunday.
The three year starter for the Chiefs loved the school, head coach Tommy Tuberville coached his father at Miami and his one time teammate, Sean Corker, is a freshman for the Red Raiders.
Cardinal Gibbons Offensive Coordinator Matt Dubuc, a Texas Tech alum, knew he would love the school, but is honest that he was surprised that he decided so early.
“I was really caught off guard,” Dubuc said. “This is a quality football player who is going to a place where I can tell you - firsthand - it’s a great fit for both, Erick and the school.”
Hallmon, a 6-0, 195-pounder, who has played a key role in the success of the Chiefs the past two seasons, could play either linebacker or safety, which is also a position he could be considered at over the next year.
Texas Tech defensive back coach Otis Mounds is also someone the family is familiar with.

Great get for Tubs and Tech! Need to keep the Florida pipeline open. Great athletes there!
