Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will continue to shine the spotlight on many athletes during the pre-spring, spring and summer.
With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.
Don't forget that the exposure continues on FACEBOOK (Herald Recruiting) and via Twitter @ larryblustein.
PLAYER: Gavin Ricketts
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: Rashad West
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: One of the strongest and most athletic defensive linemen in the region. This is a player who has tremendous instincts and a knack of knowing where the flow of the play is headed.
Having watched him play last year, and perform in the off season, there was a sense that here was an athlete who would be noticed off his athletic ability alone.
Does not shy away from competition. He often goes against the best offensive linemen in drills, games and combine events.
Whether at the Elite Scouting Services South Florida stop - or any other place he shows up to, there is a sense to showcase his skills, getting him noticed - in a hurry!
Extremely strong with an impressive 31 reps of 185 pounds and very quick (4.94 - 40) for a player with this size. This is an athlete who will climb the ladder, quickly.
