HERALD SPOTLIGHT: Herbert Waters

Herbert Waters1
Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will continue to shine the spotlight on many athletes during the pre-spring, spring and summer.

With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.

Don't forget that the exposure continues on FACEBOOK (Herald Recruiting) and via Twitter @ larryblustein.

PLAYER: Herbert Waters

YEAR: 2012

SCHOOL: Homestead

CITY: Homestead

POSITION: WR/S

HEIGHT: 6-1

WEIGHT: 180
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: Bobby McCray

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Any time you watch Homestead play, you are treated to a roster filled with Division 1 prospects who have been groomed to compete at the next level since the days on fields in Florida City, Palmetto Bay, Homestead and Goulds.

Here is a football talent who is easily one of the most versatile football players in a class that is simply mind-boggling.

He has played everywhere from quarterback to the defensive secondary, and this spring, as a member of the defending national champion 7-on-7 South Florida Express, he is getting to showcase his skills as a receiver.

This is an athlete, when he gets to play that one position, who has a chance to dominate. His is quick, strong and can jump with the best. He is still raw at receiver, and the 7-on-7 format, with all the tremendous defensive backs he will encounter, could be the best thing to see if this is indeed the position he plays at the next level.
