Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will continue to shine the spotlight on many athletes during the pre-spring, spring and summer.

With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.

Don't forget that the exposure continues on FACEBOOK (Herald Recruiting) and via Twitter @ larryblustein.

PLAYER: Cody Ray

YEAR: 2012

SCHOOL: North Miami Beach

CITY: North Miami Beach

POSITION: CB/FB

HEIGHT: 6-0

HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: Jeff Bertani

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: There's a whole lot to know about this gifted football talent, who not only makes it happen on both sides of the field, but in the classroom, where he is one of the top Bio-Medical Magnet students in the Class of 2012.

From his days as a youth football running back, this is someone who has come a long way on the football field. While many across the state continue to receive accolades for their play, here is someone who has completely flown beneath the radar screen as a top-level prospect as BCS schools continue to show plenty of interest.

A very physical shutdown cornerback who plays the run as well as he does the pass. Makes receivers pay when they do catch a ball. Has speed and strength. Excellent athlete.

On the offensive side of the ball, he plays fullback in the Chargers' attack. A superb blocker who can run the ball as well, showing last year that he can indeed help to carry the load.

In the classroom, taking his share of AP classes, he holds down a 4.3 grade point average!
