Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will continue to shine the spotlight on many athletes during the pre-spring, spring and summer.
With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.
Don't forget that the exposure continues on FACEBOOK (Herald Recruiting) and via Twitter @ larryblustein.
PLAYER: Tyler Vickers
YEAR: 2012
SCHOOL: Southridge
CITY: Miami
POSITION: TE
HEIGHT: 6-4
WEIGHT: 215
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: Patrick Burrows
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: In a year where tight ends in the state of Florida are not as deep as they were in the past few years, here is a prospect worth keeping an eye on.
A physical, pass-catching, blocking player who is not afraid to stick his head in there or make a key catch. This is someone in the next two years could get into the 240 range and then beyond.
From a receiving standpoint, here is an athlete who gets up field very well, and when he does, is physical enough to take hits from safeties or linebackers who have his quickness.
With the way the Spartans like to keep the ball on the ground, his added value of mixing it up with some of the best - even on his own team - has provided him an opportunity to improve every day.
