UCF 7-on-7 field is set for Saturday

The University of Central Florida will once again host one of the premier 7-on-7 events this Saturday with action starting at 8 a.m. and crowning a champion later that afternoon at the Orlando campus.

In one of the most competitive and well attended events in the state, this 48 team field annually attracts teams from every region of Florida.

Among some of the top programs that competed in the event the past few years include Miami Booker T. Washington, Tampa Plant, Tampa Alonso, Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer, Seffner Armwood and Orlando Dr. Phillips.

This year's field is once again going to be competitive with Tampa Plant. Lakeland Lake Gibson, Daytona Beach Seabreeze, Winter Park, Cocoa Beach, American Heritage Delray, Kissimmee Foundation Academy, Armwood, Groveland South Lake, Fort Pierce Central, South Daytona Beach Warner Christian, St. Cloud, Strawberry Crest, Space Coast, Estero, Mt. Dora and Port Orange Spruce Creek.

In addition, defending state 4A champion Tallahassee Lincoln will be on hand with Leesburg, Umatilla, Kissimmee Gateway and Winter Park Lake Howell

Orlando will be well represented with University, Jones - coached by former UMer Kennard Lang, East River, Freedom, Edgewater, Colonial and Cypress Creek.

South Florida programs who will look for a Saturday afternoon championship include Pompano Beach Ely, Hard Knocks Foundation of South Miami.
