Lawrence, Stuart and Gould on radio

The Maroone High School Gridiron Report kicks it into high gear as the show moves to Wednesday night for a 9-10 show that will spotlight some of the best in South Florida.

Joining Larry Blustein for the show on WQAM (560 AM) are Hialeah Miami Lakes senior running back Hakeem Lawrence, Belen Jesuit head coach Rich Stuart and Coral Springs head coach Ray Gould.

LEADER OF THE PACK
If you look at some of the top running backs in Miami-Dade County, and this year there are some quality players, you would be surprised to find who happens to be at the top of an impressive group.

After starting his career at North Miami High, the gifted Lawrence has certainly made an impact this year by turning in some of the most impressive performances of any back in South Florida.

The 5-8, 165-pounder, who currently holds an offer from Western Michigan, attracts new college attention every week.

STILL GETTING IT DONE
Okay, it's a new year, his team lost two of its best defensive players for the season, changed to a more competitive district and as we look at this week's 6A state rankings, there are the Belen Jesuit Wolverines, sitting there in great position.

After already beating athletic Homestead and Carol City, Coach Stuart and the Wolverines will have this week off before playing two of the toughest games on the schedule - at home against Northwestern next Friday at 4, and then a trip to play Central.

Stuart and his Wolverines continue to get better and mature each and every week.

OFF TO A GREAT START
If you've followed high school football for any length of time, you will know that over the past few years, there have been some positive changes in Coral Springs.

From a year-round commitment to getting better to football players who are now college prospects, Gould and his unbeaten Colts have certainly turned the corner, and will have a chance to win a competitive district.

This Friday night, Coach Gould and his team face its biggest challenge of the season - a trip to play unbeaten Cardinal Gibbons.

This meeting of the two unbeaten teams will certainly be one of the showcase games of the week.
