Hey Andre: Felix Varela H.S. has a brand new coaching staff this year but we haven't seen or heard much about them. Have you guys been to any games, can you give us some insight on the Vipers? They had quite a few kids go to the next level so how about showing them some love???? THANKS!

take a look at the kids at south miami we have a great group of kids down here and not saying this because he's my son but we thank he's one of best db in dade county it's just he don't go to the killian, northwestern, etc. but he can play with best of them you should have been to the killian game.

Do you consider Northwest Christian prospects Samuel Roger and Dwayne Jones legit players or just a product of their competition?

Inncoent Bystander,
I took a look at both videos. Both guys have talent, I was most impressed with Dwyane Jones' playmaking skills in the secondary.
It's hard to tell if they could do it against the elite bigger high schools, but I think both have enough skill to play against some of the upper level talent and find a spot on some college roster.

Mr. Roberts,
Although they had a tough loss against Killian, it shows South Miami is doing a great job this season to remain one of the contenders in District 14-8A.

Vipermom,
I'm not surprised the new coaches are turning things around over there. They are veterans that know the game well. Glad to see the kids are responding to what they're teaching.
We have been to every Varela game so far this season, and have had write-ups. If they keep winning, we'll keep up and be there.

Who do you consider the best Miami Dade Independent school this year?
Posted by: Twan | September 18, 2012 at 12:34 PM
Twan,
Good question. I think right now my vote goes to Reagan without a doubt.
They are on a roll right now with four consecutive blowout wins if you count the preseason game and a 10-game winning streak going back to last year.
They remind me of those Braddock teams in years they've won the district where they dominate people with the Wing-T.
They have some good playmakers to go with their good linemen.
If they were in District 15-8A or 14-7A right now, they'd likely earn a playoff spot or be in strong contention.

Do you think some of the other smaller independent schools should also come together and form a conference similar to how County Day and others have?
Posted by: Twan | September 18, 2012 at 12:49 PM
What Happened to the B.A & Deerfield Beach Game.
Did Bucks win 10-7 for it to count, or the game was wiped out.

Twan,
They've tried to do an informal set up where the best two play a bowl game, but not sure if they've been able to get it coordinated.
Reagan is looking to jump back into a district next year though and others may follow so it might not be feasible for the public school independents if that happens.

Florida123,
For now it remains suspended. Boyd Anderson has said they want to finish it, but both teams haven't been able to coordinate a date that would suit both schools.

Re Do-It on October 5th, They both have a Bye that week. That's Fair.

Which Miami-Dade independent team do you consider to have the best defensive line ?
Posted by: Robert | September 18, 2012 at 11:43 PM
I know that Im late but.... what is it going to take for Keys Gate Charter to get some recognition. First year program, undefeated, no respect.
Posted by: roger | September 19, 2012 at 12:55 PM
MAYBE KEYS GATE AND VARELA NEED TO KNOCK OFF ONE OF THESE OVERRATED HIGH SCHOOLS LIKE GULLIVER PREP, PACE OR IN BROWARD (UNIVERSITY SCHOOL/CHAMINAuDE
THEN MAYBE WE WILL GET SOME RESPECT AROUND HERE !!!!
Posted by: VIPERDAD | September 19, 2012 at 01:31 PM
sorry to say but keys gate is undefeated because they have played sisters of the blind.... varelas coaching staff is one of the best around they have a great program!!

Have you hear any rumble from Kwan Grice Class of 2013 ATH ?
Posted by: big bob | September 23, 2012 at 05:15 PM
Have you seen the QB at HML? I was watching the beat down that Hialeah put on HML but couldn't help but notice the talent oozing from HML's number 17. He showed poise in the pocket, great arm strength, toughness, mobility, and good decision making ability. It seems that the rest of the team is lacking experience. Are my eyes deceiving me? Or what?

i think golemen needs to let #2 have more carries. the kid is only a sophomore and he is a beast.another thing is that they need to past the ball more
Posted by: Den08 | September 24, 2012 at 02:52 PM
Which independent team in Dade do you consider to have the best defensive line and name the 4 key players ?
Posted by: Mark | September 24, 2012 at 08:53 PM
Rod305,
The quarterback at HML, Tredis McKenzie is a pretty good athlete. Unfortunately the team is very young and there's not enough around to help him compete against teams like Hialeah.
