Jordan Cronkrite updates his commitment status with the University of Miami

More of my interview with Jordan Cronkrite that could not make The Opening story in Sunday’s paper:

Cronkrite, the Miami Westminster Christian running back who committed to UM in April, said Friday he doubts he will stick with his pledge to the Hurricanes if Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas back Jordan Scarlett were to commit to UM.

Scarlett decommitted from Florida Atlantic on June 27 and lists UM, Florida State, Ohio State and South Carolina among his favorites.

“I doubt I’d probably still be with UM,” Cronkrite said. “I’d probably look somewhere else.”

Cronkrite said he spoke with the UM coaching staff before the recent dead period started to see where he stood with the Canes.

“I had a talk with the coaches about the future,” he said. “And where I stand and where we stand at the running back position and all that. It was a nice talk.”

The topics of discussion?

“If things were to change or more people commit to the school – not certain names – but just what would happen with me and how our relationship would be, and where I’d go on their board if certain people commit.

“They told me I’m still on top of their list right now.”

Cronkrite remains committed to UM in the meantime, and will wait to see how things will unfold in the months to come.

There are multiple reports regarding Dexter Williams’ family wants the Winter Park West Orange tailback to play at the University of Florida.

And the reclassification of Miami Booker T. Washington’s Mark Walton gives UM its most solid commitment at the running back position in the Class of 2015.

Cronkrite simply would prefer not to play in a loaded backfield with Walton, Scarlett, Joseph Yearby, Gus Edwards and Walter Tucker where carries will be scarce for all parties involved.

“[I’m] not running away from competition, but just being realistic,” Cronkrite said. “They said they’re bringing in two and there’s three. There’s more time for me to be seen for the next level after college.”

Cronkrite listed West Virginia, Ohio State, South Carolina and Florida as “the main” schools in contention for his potential services. Cronkrite said he has a close relationship with a coaching staff member from each of the first three schools on that list.

Cronkrite has tentative plans to visit South Carolina and Ohio State after The Opening, which ends on Thursday. He visited West Virginia earlier this summer, and has visited UF before.

This kid is running away from competition. He's not Cane material. NEXT .........................

I am torn. Id rather keep kids who knew where they wanted to go early,Especially if they committed to UM before the others. I will be honest tho Id love for a few situations to happen. A.We keep all 3 we have now.B.We get Scarlett and keep all4. C.We get Scarlett and lose one of the others and keep 3. If we lose 1 of the top guys or don't get Scarlett I pray they do not go to UF or FSU..

Ed

It's plenty of touches to go around, jordan or mark could get PR/KR touches til more carries open up.

Also, Ala & GA signed big RB classes recently, Miami can do the same. Being the main & only back is dumb. See Trent Richardson, Mark Ingram, those type of backs get worn down & are useless in the league. Yea he can be another Alex Collins get 190 carries as a freshmen but Soph & junior he'll be worked to death in those Sec 1-2 back systems . Save your body for the league kid.

Why would a great athlete want to be a RB as opposed to a CB? Have you seen the contract Sam Shields just got? The league is about throwing and stopping the pass. RBs are picked in 3rd-4th round. Not saying anything about Conkrite, just a comment in general.

jerry

Doesnt really matter where he or the others commit to...while we have ShitiOnofrio running the D....

YUP! And honestly, while Cronkrite is a heckuva back, He looks to be an even better DB. But at the same time, UF wanted Portis as a DB, and we know how that turned out. But at the end of this process, I just hope Cronkrite makes a decision He's happy, AND successful with.

Cronk- check this out:

Clinton Portis
DJ Williams
Willis McGahee
Frank Gore

That was the depth chart in 2000-2001 at the U. Not to mention full backs.

Even if you play as #1 ONE year youll be in the NFL

But this is rb U as recently PROVEN by ESPN analyisis that showed that since 2000- NO OTHER PROGRAM HSA PRODUCED SUCCESFUL (KEY WORD) NFL RBS LIKE MIAMI. NOT ALABAMA, NOT USC, NOT OHIO STATE, NOT FSU.

STICK WIT THE U. BIDE YOUR TIME, GET BIGGER, FASTER, STAY HEALTY. WHEN YOUR TIME COMES, THEN YOU BUST OUT- IN TIME FOR OUR NEXT SHIP!

Hurricane 1991

I Swear You Dumb Fucks Are Retard Especially Hurricanes Fans Saying He Is Running From Competition.. Jordan Is Making A Business Decision Why Would He Go To A Program With A Loaded Backfield?? Edwards, Walton, Yearby, Scarlett, Tucker And He Would Be Six... Six Running Backs With Only One Football And Hell Of Player Makers At Receiver.. Jordan Is Simply Looking At The Bigger Picture No Competitor Wants To Be On The Sideline Just Cause Of Some Big Name Player Blank Period.. Look At Clements From Booker T He Went To Miami With Big Name Players But Hardly Seen The Field Cause Of Big Name Players.. So You Hurricane Fan Can Do Better Than Down Talk An UM Commit And Tell To Work Harder An Any Running Backs Or Join That Category 5 Secondary.. You Miami People Love To Down Talk Peoplr Thats Why Miami Kids End Up At FSU!!!!

Cronkite the U is a family,a brotherhood don't pass up an opportunity to experience all of that while bringing the U back to glory.

202canesfan

He has to do what's best for him! Good luck either way to the young man!

One who knows

The U is yesterday's news... Cronkite would do himself a favor and find a coaching staff that doesn't LIE to him. Trust me. Golden is gone in 2 years cuz some of the people he has hired can't coach... Are not about the U...and can't evaluate / recruit talent. For 3 years all we have heard is excuses and blaming kids. Really? You lost to DUKE. Randy got run out of town but he didn't Lose to DUKE
