ROCKAWAY, N.J. — The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee has announced the six finalists for the 2015 USAAAB National Coach of the Year Award. The Coach of the Year will be announced during the U.S. Army All-American Awards Show on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, in San Antonio. The award honors the nation’s top high school football coach for exceptional coaching abilities and leadership skills, as well as acknowledging his role as a positive influence to young Americans on and off the field.

Tim Harris, Jr., who guided Miami's Booker T. Washington to its third straight state title in his first year as head coach, is one of the finalists. The Tornadoes beat Jacksonville Bolles last weekend to wrap up a 14-0 record.

“The ability to lead is a highly valued trait, and one that is of utmost importance to the U.S. Army,” said Mark S. Davis, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for marketing. “These coaches exemplify superb leadership skills in training, educating and guiding their players both on and off the field. We’re proud to recognize these coaches and congratulate them on this honor.”

For 15 years, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl has been the nation’s premier high school football game, serving as the preeminent launching pad for America’s future college and NFL stars. Andrew Luck, Patrick Peterson and Jamaal Charles made their national debuts as U.S. Army All-Americans. In the 2014 NFL draft, there were a total of seven U.S. Army All-American Bowl Alumni drafted in the first round. The 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl drew a crowd of 40,017 to the Alamodome, and was the most-watched sporting event on television over the weekend, excluding the NFL playoffs.
