Ruben Studdard on American Idol tonight to perform his new single. Smokey Robinson and Joss Stone to duet. And Stevie Wonder is to perform. zzzzzzzzz. Wish that guy would retire already.
Meantime, 36 million votes came in last night, a record for Top 10 contestants, Ryan announces.
Ruben Studdard returned to the Idol stage, lit it with his smile, and performed his instantly forgettable new single and somehow worked up a sweat.
Ryan then started the elimination process and the first in the hot seat was Matt, in a bit of a surprise. No, he wasn't any good last night on a whitebread Let's Get It On, but this means either Megan or Scott are safe and Matt was better than both of them.
Michael also wound up in the bottom three which isn't a surprise for anyone. He knew it too. Ryan teased Lil Rounds by telling her that other Idols who attempted Heat Wave in previous seasons (like Kim Locke) wound up in the bottom three. Hers may have been the coldest Heat Wave to date but she lucks out because others last night were worse.
Scott joins these two in the bottom three (Megan's darn lucky) and he's immediately sent back to salvation for another week -- WHAT?? -- leaving Michael and Matt as this week's bottom two.
Joss Stone and Smokey Robinson sang You're the One For Me. Smokey looked a bit like a dirty old man trying to pick up young Joss. A much more elegant ballad than Rubin's formulaic dud, tho. He also sounded much better than the next Motown legend who took to the stage ...
... Stevie Wonder, who wasted all of our time on a medley of three overplayed old songs (My Cherie Amour, Superstition and Overjoyed) and one banal new one that will never be overplayed because it's a song in the key of BORING. It's been so long since this guy was one of the greatest ... try 33 years.
Michael is then revealed as the contestant with the fewest votes, so he goes home. It really was unfair to make him sing for the judges to debate whether or not to use their one-time Judges' Save card. They would have no intention of saving this guy.

hating ai end of story!

agreeing with Gail. This show is a total racket. They keep atrocious Megan because she's pretty; Scott because people have sympathy for him that he's blind. It's not a fair contest. And Matt did NOT deserve to be in the bottom three. Compared to Megan and Scott, frankly, either did Rigger. Racket! If I were the judges, I'd have killed two brutal birds with one stone last night, pulled a Gordon Ramsay and said to Megan and Scott--both of you, piss off!

Megan is this year's Sanjaya. And there always seems to be one horrible person each season who manages to stick around way too long. The Vote for the Worst effect I suppose. Eventually the best singers win out. Thank goodness Allison wasn't in the bottom this time

Did anyone else see poor Rueban Studdard bathing in his own pool of sweat after his performance? Poor guy looked like he was going to have a heart attack. Throw the guy a towel! He must weigh 400lbs now. Seriously.
