Scotty McCreery dwarfs recent Idol's sales

Scotty-mccreery
If there was any doubt that American Idol finally has picked a commercially viable winner, young country baritone Scotty McCreery removes the doubt as his digital hits compilation of studio performances of his Idol songs bows just outside the Billboard Top 10 at No. 12 on sales of 23,000 downloads.

That figure is more than 10 times the amount Season 9 winner Lee DeWyze moved (2,000) and more than twice that of Season 8 winner Kris Allen (10,000). Season 8 runnerup Adam Lambert did better than Allen when the glam popster sold 16,000 but he still didn't approach what Scotty, 17, managed.

Even runnerup Lauren Alaina outdid Kris and Lee with her digital set as it debuted at #42 on sales of 11,000.

My my my... what short memory the Idolverse doth have:
"David Cook has set a new record for debut entries on the American music charts.

Eleven songs performed by the 2008 American Idol winner will debut on the Billboard Hot 100, while fourteen David Cook singles have exploded on the Hot Digital Songs chart.

David’s coronation single, entitled “The Time of My Life,” will debut at Number Three on the Billboard Hot 100, with a Number One debut on the Hot Digital Songs chart, earning 236,000 downloads.

The previous new entries record was held by Miley Cyrus, who landed six Hot 100 debuts in November 2006."
