About Idol Watch
Howard Cohen has been writing about pop music for The Miami Herald since 1991 when, then working for the Society editor, he lucked out by joining a music team that had little interest in the then-nascent Seattle grunge movement and his expertise in rock gave him a foothold in the beat. Since then, Howard has covered everyone and everything from pop to rock to country to jazz and interviewed almost all of the artists on his wish-list. So far this includes two of the surviving Beatles, a Rolling Stone, Dixie Chick Natalie Maines about "the incident'' and Jane Fonda about her remarkable life -- as well as personal favorites Carly Simon and Stevie Nicks.
Howard is also the Idol Watch columnist, a weekly critique of American Idol and its contestants weekly during the run of the popular series. In addition to his music duties this former competitive swimmer covers health and fitness for the pages of The Miami Herald.
Howard has written for Billboard magazine and Rolling Stone's online edition.
