The Deering family were famous industrialists in the early twentieth century, owning International Harvester.  James Deering was best known here in Miami for his elaborate home, Vizcaya.  His brother also built a home here in South Florida.  Charles Deering built a home in Cutler which held a gallery of Spanish paintings and a collection of rare books.
