It's viral marketing Cuban style. Los Primeros, the Miami-guapo-Cubanazo trio of Hialeah 20-somethings whose comedy videos and song Eslow Motion has made them hot on youtube and among the Hialeah high school set, will open for Miami Cuban icon Willy Chirino at the American Airlines Arena this Saturday.
(Love the kinda dorky eslow motion and the local dance talent)
How'd they work it? Andres Pita, 22, Ray Moreno, 24, and Pedro Perez, 22, already knew how to rise online. The comedy videos they started posting while they were still in high school earned them enough of a following that they started singing and posting those videos, and subsequently got the attention of the almighty MTV, which put them on My Super Sweet Sixteen show.
About a month and a half ago, Los Primeros came to Eventus Marketing and Entertainment, which manages Chirino and is producing the concert, with Los Primeros Meet Willy Chirino, a video they'd made about three Cubans (with muy Miamense accents) who board a plane to Miami, go on a wild Miami van voyage as they try to get to the Chirino concert, encountering a speeding Cubanazo driver, a redneck cop, a couple more rednecks, a lusty ticket taker, and some big bellied security as they try to get to the Willy Chirino concert (Los Primeros play all the parts except for the guy standing in line with them for tickets).
Although Eventus folks SWEAR they had nothing to do with it - que milagro! - Chirino loved the video so much he made an appearance in Part II, and invited them - in the video and in real life - to play with him and Cuban fusion group Habana Abierta at the Arena. And his myspace and facebook pages have been blowing up, presumably with a much younger demographic.
Like the song says "Lo que esta 'pa ti, nadie puede te lo quita."
