When UK dance punkette Ebony Bones was announced as the headliner for Art Loves Music, I had conflicting thoughts. First, I wanted to strangle the person responsible for booking two unknown dance chick acts in a row. I understand that following the legendary NY Dolls, the fun as hell Peaches, and the transcendent visionaries that made up the Stooges is not an easy task - but they could at least freakin' try! The Stooges show in particular, was among the greatest things that's ever happened to this town. The Cameo Theater heydey of the Miami Beach punk rock scene was recreated in honor of the band that invented the music that begat it. If you could have bottled the energy on the sand that night, you could have become a billionaire.
The other thought, was that unlike last year's star, French pop tart Yelle, who had played miami so much in a 12 month period she was the musical equivalent of herpes, Ebony Bones is a fresh face to US audiances. And while she may be deriving her look, sound and vibe from uk acts like The Slits and Bow Wow Wow through a Funkadelic / Screaming Jay Hawkins filter -- in today's dance music climate - ANYTHING THAT DOESNT SUCK AND USES LIVE INSTRUMENTS IS TO BE CELEBRATED!!!
Plus, she's a hot chick who rocks. What's not to love about that?
