Generally speaking, when a band goes through multiple producers on one record - you get a muddled mess from a band that has no idea what it wants and thus can't communicate to the listener.This is not the case with Long Island quartet As Tall As Lions's latest opus, "You Can't Take It With You." The album is a soaring triumph of dynamic, moody alt-rock that manages to both evoke the best of their 80s ancestors (The Cure) while surpassing the efforts of their numerous contemporaries who share a similar love for octave chords and lush synths.
While As Tall As Lions could hardly be called a minimalist band musically, the band is on a mission to become environmentally waste free. For the tour that brings them to the Culture Room Saturday night, As Tall As Lions have partnered up with the Alliance for Climate Education (ACE) to "Do One Thing" (DOT) for the environment. As Tall As Lions' DOT is to promote the use of reusable steel water bottles - while encouraging their audience to text thier own DOTs to them during their show. While that technically is doing two things, surely, Mother Earth appreciates the gesture.
