Before joining the hotel, she was catering sales manager at Lyon + Lyon, a full service catering and event planning company in South Florida. Before that, she worked for the Hilton Hotel Corporation for 12 years, managing all aspects of more than 200 association conventions and corporate meetings.

R. David Paulison named to board of trustees of Underwriters Laboratories
R. David Paulison, former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has been elected to the board of trustees of Underwriters Laboratories (UL). Paulison, a Miami-Dade resident, led FEMA from 2005 through 2009. He is credited with guiding the federal agency through the development of next-generation processes, technologies and infrastructures needed for better response to future hazards and disasters. He began his career as a firefighter in 1971 and rose to become fire chief of Dade County in 1992, a position he held through 2001. In 2001, he joined the federal government as administrator of the United States Fire Administration.
David Thorpe named VP of strategy at SapientNitro in Miami Beach
David Thorpe has been named vice president of strategy and analysis in the Miami Beach office of SapientNitro, a global marketing and technology company. He will be tasked with conceiving and applying new business strategies for the company's clients. His career has spanned film, music, communications, technology, and government. Before joining SapientNitro, he was director of innovation with the Institute of State Effectiveness. He also was a senior partner at Ogilvy & Mather and held an executive positioin at Young & Rubicam.

Derek E. León named general counsel at Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute
Derek E. León has been named general counsel of the Washington, D.C.-based Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). He is a litigation partner in the Miami office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. He will provide the institute with advice and counsel on board governance and legal matters on a pro bono basis. He also will serve as a nonvoting member of the institute’s board. The CHCI promotes the next generation of Latino leaders.

Vivian Gallo named SVP and general counsel at Miami Children's Hospital
Vivian Menge Gallo has joined Miami Children's Hospital as senior vice president and general counsel. She will be responsible for management and oversight of the hospital's legal affairs and lead the risk management team, and will provide legal counsel to the hospital’s senior leadership and board of directors. She was associate general counsel and deputy general counsel at The Nemours Foundation, a nonprofit organization that manages pediatric hospitals and subspecialty outpatient clinics in Delaware, Florida, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Before that, she was associate general counsel at the University of Pennsylvania for five years.

Brian Schriner named dean of FIU's College of Architecture and the Arts
Brian Schriner has been named dean of the College of Architecture and the Arts at Florida International University (FIU). He previously served as the college’s interim dean and has held several administrative posts since arriving at FIU in 1990, including associate dean of academic affairs, and director of the School of Theatre, Dance, and Speech Communication. He started at FIU more than 20 years ago as a debate coach and visiting instructor.

Guy Petroro has been named senior vice president, chief lending officer at JetStream Federal Credit Union in Miami Lakes. He will oversee the lending and collection functions for the credit union and will be responsible for the management, development and planning of all lending operations.
