Harvey Gurland has been named co-managing partner of the Miami and Boca Raton offices of Duane Morris. He joins current managing partner Charles Papy in the role of leading the firm’s growing South Florida presence. Gurland represents clients in general business and corporate matters, including class actions and shareholder suits. He also has experience in the energy industry and is former chairman of the Petroleum Marketing Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources.
Jennifer Bolt has been named senior vice president, chief strategy officer at rVue, Inc., an advertising technology company in Fort Lauderdale. She will be responsible for accelerating the integration of the company's platform into the advertising industry, leading key agency relationships and driving the expansion of rVue’s analytics capabilities and product offerings. Before joining rVue, she was executive director of engagement planning and innovation at TracyLocke, where she led the media team in client strategy.
Daniel Quezada has been promoted to vice president of finance at CareCloud, a Miami-based provider of online tools for medical offices to manage financial and administrative work. He will be responsible for overseeing corporate finance and accounting functions, including treasury, planning, analysis and financial reporting. He joined CareCloud in November 2010 as the company’s corporate controller. Before that, he held key finance roles at Burger King Corporation.
Jay Thornton has joined the Fort Lauderdale law office of GrayRobinson, P.A. as a shareholder in the litigation practice group. He represents clients in varied labor and employment management, banking, and general commercial litigation matters. He also has handled significant litigation regarding music artist’s rights. He was with Hunton and Williams LLP in Miami for nearly 10 years.
Dr. Harriet Myers has been named dean of the new Chamberlain College of Nursing in Miramar. She has 40 years of experience in the healthcare industry, including practice, instruction and research. She was associate dean of student affairs, associate professor of behavioral sciences and director of the Academic Success Program for Ross University School of Medicine. At the University of Alabama, she taught in Capstone College of Nursing, School of Medicine – Tuscaloosa Branch, and the doctoral program of clinical psychology. She also is a registered nurse and a licensed psychologist.
Robert S. Powell has been named regional vice president in commercial banking of TD Bank in Fort Lauderdale. He will be responsible for overseeing commercial banking, small business banking and related products and services at the 15 retail banking locations throughout Broward County. Before joining TD Bank, he was president of Citizens Community Bank in Berwyn, Ill., and was regional vice president at Deutsche Financial Services in Chicago and St. Louis.
Barbara Iris Ortega has been named vice president and chief internal auditor at Pacific National Bank in Miami. She will be responsible for ensuring that the bank abides by auditing and accounting best practices and will work closely with federal regulators who routinely monitor the institution. She was senior vice president and audit manager for Lloyds Bank Group in Miami, which she joined in 1997. Before that, she spent four years as an international bank examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
Ramon Tebar has been named music director of Florida Grand Opera. He will provide an artistic vision, watching over the musical integrity and performance level of the orchestra, chorus and singers. He also will provide artistic planning advice and recommend singers for upcoming seasons. The Spanish conductor was music director for the Palm Beach Symphony, where he debuted as resident conductor in 2009.
Steve Cawley has been named vice president for information technology and chief information officer (CIO) at The University of Miami. In his new position, he will provide leadership and vision for all aspects of information technology, including the establishment of policies and the deployment of hardware and software. Before joining UM, he was with the University of Minnesota, serving was vice president and CIO for the main Twin Cities campus and CIO of the University of Minnesota System.
