Michael S. Sheitelman has joined the Fort Lauderdale law office of GrayRobinson, P.A. as a shareholder in the firm’s real estate practice. He will focus on transactional work with an emphasis on the acquisition, disposition, financing, development, construction, leasing and operations of vacant office, retail and industrial properties.
FAU names David J. Bjorkman dean of medical college, Jennifer Anderson vice president/community engagement
Florida Atlantic University (FAU) has named Dr. David J. Bjorkman dean of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, and Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson has been named vice president for community engagement and executive director of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation, Inc.
In his new role, Bjorkman will lead the development of FAU’s new medical school, providing quality educational experience for physicians in training; encouraging and nurturing collaborative and interdisciplinary relationships with other colleges and schools within FAU and hospitals, institutions and clinical partners; and fostering and enhancing clinical partnerships within the three-county area in which FAU resides. He has been the dean of the University of Utah School of Medicine since 2004, executive medical director of the University of Utah Medical Group in Salt Lake City, Utah since 2000, and a professor of medicine within the department of internal medicine at University of Utah since 1999. Before that, he was the assistant dean for continuing medical education and educational assessment, and the associate chief of the department of internal medicine within the division of gastroenterology at the University of Utah.
Anderson will provide leadership for the university’s new office of community engagement, which will encompass all advancement, alumni relations and fundraising activities. She will begin her new position in December. She is currently president and chief executive officer of the United Way of Broward County. She is an FAU alumna.
Jackson Lewis partner Pedro Torres-Díaz named general counsel to the Hispanic National Bar Association
Pedro Torres-Díaz, a partner in the Miami office of Jackson Lewis, has been named general counsel on the board of governors to the Hispanic National Bar Association. He will represent the association in all legal matters through 2012. Additionally, he will supervise and direct the work of all deputy general counsels of the association. He previously served as chairman of the labor and employment section of the HNBA.
Vicky Garcia, Brian Shultz promoted to executive positions at Cruise Planners/American Express
Vicky Garcia has been promoted to executive vice president of sales and marketing and Brian Shultz has been promoted to vice president of information technology at Cruise Planners/American Express, a Coral Springs-based travel agent franchise serving the cruise industry. Garcia will be responsible for overseeing training, operations and all sales and marketing initiatives. She joined Cruise Planners/American Express in 2004 as director of group operations and was quickly promoted to senior vice president of sales and marketing. She has more than 24 years of cruise industry experience, having spent more than 10 years at Royal Caribbean International. She also worked for Norwegian Cruise Line before joining Cruise Planners/American Express. In just over a year, Shultz has not only managed Cruise Planners' IT department but has successfully developed and launched more than nine new technologies and products for the company's home-based travel advisors.
Former circuit judge Jorge J. Perez joins McDonald Hopkins law firm
Jorge J. Perez has joined the Miami law office of McDonald Hopkins LLC as a member and chairman of the newly formed national receivership practice group, Before joining the firm, he was a partner at Gordon & Rees LLP. Before that, he was a circuit court judge in the 11th Judicial Circuit, Miami-Dade County, for more than four years. He was appointed to the bench by former Gov. Jeb Bush. He has extensive litigation experience in state, federal and administrative courts at the trial and appellate levels. He also has broad expertise in receiverships, special magistrate appointments and other fiduciary appointments, and arbitration, mediation, and commercial litigation. Before serving as judge, he was assistant district counsel at the Department of Homeland Security in Miami, where he represented the U.S. government in all forms of federal immigration administrative and judicial proceedings.
Emanuel Galimidi promoted to partner at Lydecker Diaz
Emanuel Galimidi has been promoted to partner from senior associate at the Miami law firm of Lydecker Diaz. He will focus his practice on complex commercial litigation, construction law, maritime law, real estate litigation and transactions, title insurance law and workman's compensation law. Before joining the firm, he represented several professional athletes in contract negotiations with sports leagues including the National Football League and the Canadian Football League. He also is a licensed title agent for the Attorneys' Title Fund.
Grisel Fernandez-Bravo named chief nursing officer at Memorial Hospital Miramar
Grisel Fernandez-Bravo has been named chief nursing officer at Memorial Hospital Miramar. She will oversee all nursing, quality and safety functions directly related to patient care. She also will be responsible for overseeing clinical effectiveness and purchasing to assure compliance with CMS guidelines. Before joining Memorial, she was chief nursing officer at Hialeah Hospital and Palmetto General Hospital.
Dianne Whitelocke named a regional director at Broward Health General Medical Center
Dianne Whitelocke has been named regional director of physician and medical staff administration for Broward Health General Medical Center (BGMC). In her role as regional director, she will oversee medical staff administration and provide leadership for regional medical staff services, credentialing, continuing medical education and related activities to maintain hospital accreditation and licensure with state, federal and accreditation agencies. She also will direct the development, implementation and ongoing administration of physician initiatives and management support for medical staff analysis and recruitment. Before joining BGMC, she was director of contract administration and vendor relations at Broward Health's corporate offices. She has worked at Broward Health since 1992.
Van Antle promoted to director of operation at Adler Group
Van L. Antle has been promoted to director of operations at Adler Group, a commercial real estate firm headquartered in Miami. He will oversee asset operations of Adler Group’s portfolio of more than six million square feet of retail, office and industrial space throughout Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, Maryland and Texas. He will be responsible for directing how each asset is managed while improving properties to raise efficiencies, operations and increasing their value. He was property manager for Adler Realty Services, the property management, sales and leasing division of Adler Group, before the promotion. He was responsible for managing and directing 800,000 square feet of the company’s commercial properties in the Miami market. Before joining Adler Group, he was vice president of facility management at Design Center of the Americas in Dania Beach. Before that, he was director of facility operations at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale.
