Martin Burkett promoted to co-chair of mergers and acquisitions at Akerman Senterfitt
Martin Burkett, a shareholder in the Miami office of Akerman Senterfitt, has been named co-chair of the firm’s mergers and acquisitions and private equity practice. His practice includes structuring and negotiating complex business transactions, mergers, acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, going private transactions, venture and growth capital investments, debt and equity financings, and securities offerings.
Cynthia Fernandez, two others, promoted to assistant vice presidents at Preferred Care Partners
Preferred Care Partners, a health maintenance organization, has promoted Cynthia Fernandez to assistant vice president of human resources; Ileana Remmer to assistant vice president of membership and corporate services; and Doris Torrejon to assistant vice president of medical management.
Fernandez will be responsible for leading human resources practices and objectives such as recruitment and ongoing development of the workforce. She has worked for the company since 1999, has served as human resources director, human resources manager and office manager.
Remmer will provide strategic direction to ensure ongoing process improvement, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency in enrollment, member services and corporate services. She joined Preferred Care Partners in 2003.
Torrejon will be responsible for the operational and clinical oversight of the medical management department. She joined the company in 2000.
Ben Breier, William Altman, Joseph Landenwich promoted at Kindred Healthcare
Benjamin A. Breier has been promoted to president and chief operating officer at Kindred Healthcare, Inc. He joined the company in 2005 and has served as chief operating officer since 2010. At Kindred, he was president of the hospital division and president of the Peoplefirst Rehabilitation Division. Before joining Kindred, he was senior vice president of operations at Concentra, Inc., a provider of workers compensation and other occupational health services. Kindred also has promoted William M. Altman to executive vice president for strategy, policy and integrated care, and Joseph L. Landenwich has been promoted to co-general counsel and corporate secretary. Altman, an attorney, joined the company in 1996 and has served as senior vice president, strategy and public policy since 2008. Landenwich, an attorney and certified public accountant, joined the company in 1996 and has served as Kindred’s senior vice president of corporate legal affairs and corporate secretary.
Deena Brito promoted to director of professional services at Mariner's Hospital
Deena Brito has been promoted from laboratory director to director of professional services at Tavernier’s Mariners Hospital, which is part of Baptist Health South Florida. She joined Mariners Hospital in 2003 as the laboratory supervisor and in 2006 was promoted to laboratory director. In her new role, she will continue her directorship of the laboratory, she will oversee dietary and regulatory agencies and provide executive support for utilization review and performance improvement.
Jose Gutierrez, Manny Diaz named to board of directors at Intercredit Bank
Jose R. Gutierrez has been named chairman of the board of directors at Intercredit Bank in Miami. In addition, Manny Diaz, a senior partner with the law firm of Lydecker Diaz, and the former mayor of the City of Miami, has been named to the board of directors of Intercredit Bank.
Gutierrez, who has more than 30 years of banking experience, has served on the bank’s board as a director since 2009. His past positions include: president and COO of Gulf Bank; president and CEO of BAC Bank of Florida; president and CEO of Unibank; and executive vice president and board secretary of Mercantil Commercebank, N.A.
Diaz is chair of Lydecker Diaz’s business and corporate department. and represents numerous corporate, real estate and financial institutions. He was elected mayor of Miami in 2001 and served two terms.
Julio Martinez named executive vice president and chief financial officer at Professional Bank
Julio R. Martinez, who has 20 years of local banking and financial accounting experience in senior level positions, has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer at Professional Bank in Coral Gables. He will be responsible for all financial and regulatory reporting, treasury management and interest rate risk, oversight of daily banking operations, compliance with internal controls, and communications with auditors and bank regulators. He was previously a senior vice president, CFO at Union Credit Bank.
