Marielena DeSanctis was recently appointed vice president for student affairs and enrollment at Broward College. Before, she was executive director of curriculum, instruction and interventions for Broward County Public Schools. She also has been a math and science teacher, assistant principal at South Plantation High School, and principal at Fort Lauderdale High. DeSanctis has a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a master’s in educational leadership and administration from Nova Southeastern University, and a doctoral degree in educational leadership and administration from Florida Atlantic University.
Best advice she ever received: Dr. Joel Herbst, associate dean of the College of Education at Florida Atlantic University, said, “An engineering degree and a Ph.D. in leadership will not get you anywhere if you do not authentically value, support and serve the people you work with.”
