Roy E. Weiss has been named chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Before, he was at The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Weiss was the Rabbi Morris I. Esformes Endowed Professor of Medicine, professor of pediatrics, chief of the Section of Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, executive vice chairman of the Department of Medicine, and deputy provost for research for the university. Weiss spent 29 years at the University of Chicago. A native of Long Island, New York, Weiss has a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Duke University and a Ph.D. in cellular biology from the University of South Carolina. His medical degree is from the Sackler Medical School in Tel Aviv. He returned to the United States in 1985 for an internship at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics, where he completed his residency and fellowship, and joined the university faculty.
