Shelly Smith-Fano and Norman Wartman have been appointed to the Board of Directors for Miami-Dade Expressway Authority.
Smith-Fano is director of Miami Dade College's School of Business Hospitality Management Program.
Wartman is chairman of the Citizens Transportation Advisory Committee and will complete the unexpired term of former MDX Chairman Daryl Sharpton.

Norm Tripp, founder and chairman emeritus with the law firm of Tripp Scott, has been appointed to the Board of Governors of the State University System of Florida, pending confirmation by the Florida Senate.
The Board of Governors is the constitutional body created by voters in 2002 to guide the State University System of Florida.
He was vice chairman of the board of trustees at Florida Atlantic University, a member of the advisory board of the Huizenga School of Business at Nova Southeastern University, and a member of the South Florida Board for the Annenberg Challenge Grant. In addition, he was on the University of Miami board of trustees and a former vice chair and chair of the State Board of Community Colleges. He also founded Alamo Rent-a-Car.

This board advises the commerce secretary on government policies and programs that affect the U.S. travel and tourism industry and offers counsel on current and emerging trends.

Jane Mass, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of the Jackson Health System, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Florida Center for Nursing by Governor Charlie Crist. Her term will run until June 13, 2009.
The Florida Center for Nursing is housed in the College of Health and Public Affairs at the University of Central Florida. The Center focuses its efforts on addressing issues of supply and demand for nursing in Florida, including recruitment, retention, and utilization of nurse workforce resources.

Walter Loy has been appointed to a two-year term on the Board of Directors for the Jay Malina International Trade Consortium. He previously was chair of the Miami-Dade Sister Cities Coordinating Council.
He is senior advisor of international affairs for Esslinger-Wooten-Maxwell Realtors. The Jay Malina International Trade Consortium aims to create opportunities for international trade and cultural understanding by promoting and strengthening Miami-Dade County as a global gateway.

Gonzalo Sanabria, president of Real Estate Works and member of the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority’s Board of Directors, has been named chair of the expressway's Operations Committee.
The position had previously been held by Johnny Martinez, former Florida Department of Transportation District Six Secretary.
The Operations Committee is responsible for reviewing partnering arrangements and matters regarding procurement, operations and maintenance of the Authority’s right-of-way, roadways and other facilities and equipment. In addition, the committee oversees intelligent transportation systems, roadside assistance programs and the overall implementation of the Authority’s work program.

Nick A. Inamdar, vice president of The Gatehouse Group, has been named to the Board of Directors of the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority. He was appointed by Gov. Charlie Crist.
He is responsible for the location, underwriting and financing of multifamily housing sites in Florida and maintains oversight of the governmental affairs of the company. He is currently involved in the development of 534 affordable housing units in Miami-Dade County.

Walter R. Reed, a 20-year veteran with the Coral Gables Fire Department, has been hired as the new fire chief of the City of Coral Gables.
He will begin his new post on Feb. 1 and replaces retiring Fire Chief Richard Cook.

Chris Mobley, publisher and president of ALM’s Daily Business Review, has become the first publisher elected to the board of directors of the Associated Industries of Florida.
AIF represents the business community before elected and appointed officials of state government on issues of interest to the business community.
He was elected to a two-year term and is expected to serve on the association’s Information Technology Council, working to grow the state government’s IT capabilities. He has also joined the group’s Taxation Committee.
