Davis airs first ad -- soon

Jim Davis' campaign released its first ad Thursday, although it won't be on television until next week. The preview may quiet questions about his Democratic rival for governor, Rod Smith, airing commercials since Saturday despite a smaller campaign account. Davis, the frontrunner in the polls, is sticking to his scheduled Tuesday launch.

"This was the plan all along,'' said campaign spokesman Josh Earnest. "It's a carefully researched strategy to maximize our resources and deliver our message at a time when the majority of voters are paying attention.''

The ad mirrors the candidate: smart and safe. It features settings typical of political ads, with Davis reading to children in a library and standing in front of an American flag. It's also conventional - but effective - in highlighting his prized endorsement from former Gov. Bob Graham.
