Republican gov. candidate Charlie Crist has finally cut ties with the man who said Jesus backed Crist's candidacy, the Muslim-bashing Rev. O'Neal Dozier who has also made inflammatory remarks against homosexuals.
The pastor of Pompano Beach-based Worldwide Christian Center opposed a mosque's construction and called Islam a cult this summer, leading Gov. Jeb Bush to remove him from a Broward County-based Judicial Nominating Commission. But Crist kept Dozier on his family policy campaign committee until today, when he learned Dozier was passing out 3,000 anti-Islamic comic books, such as Who is Allah?. Crist said it was too much.
Aside from its paranoia about a Muslim plot to dominate America and "end Christianity," the comic book makes a notable historical stretch by claiming "Allah" was the name for a pagan moon good. Not quite. It's simply Arabic for "One God" (the "el" or "al" sound being Semitic for "god").
