Wasserman Schultz clarifies her war vote

Today's Herald story about last night's gathering of the Florida Democratic Party notes the backlash from liberals against Democrats in Congress for voting for a war funding bill that did not set any deadline for troop withdrawal.

Among the Democrats from South Florida, U.S. Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Weston and U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek of Miami voted for the bill. They oppose the war but were concerned that troops would be left without necessary supplies.

"My confidence level (in the president) and conscience required me to vote for that legislation,'' Wasserman Schultz is quoted as saying.

Wasserman Schultz's office called today to make it clear that it was a lack of confidence in the president that prompted her vote.
