Prompted by a Miami Herald investigation into a failed Liberty City project, Rep. Kendrick Meek says he's donating $5,500 in campaign contributions linked to the Boston developer of the project he and his mother, former Rep. Carrie Meek, once suported.
The Herald reported last week that Carrie Meek, received at least $40,000 and a free luxury car from the developer to consult on the project while her son moved to secure federal dollars for the developer.
Meek defended his action in a letter to the Herald , saying he was supporting development in his district, but Herald columnist Carl Hiaasen is skeptical.
And DC-based Politico reports that Meek is giving the money away, telling the newspaper he is "in the process of selecting nonprofit organizations to be given the $5,500 he received."

But will his mother give back the Escalade?
