Giuliani: Who needs endorsements?

Rudy Giuliani is out with a new web ad that suggests he's better off not getting any newspaper endorsements in Florida. (Rival John McCain has just about sewed up all the major newspaper endorsements in the state.)

"Rudy Giuliani is not endorsed by The Tampa Tribune. Not endorsed by The Orlando Sentinel. Not endorsed by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. In fact he's not endorsed by any of the liberal newspapers...," the ad notes.

It closes noting that not only the Florida newspapers have rejected the former New York City mayor..."you're the last person on earth to be endorsed by the liberal New York Times," a voiceover intones. "Rudy Giuliani. Tested. Ready. Now."

The Tampa Trib, in particular, might take exception to being labeled a "liberal newspaper." According to its own editorial page, the newspaper has endorsed a Republican for president ever since Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952. Though it sat out the race in 1964 - and 40 years later, when it said it was "deeply conflicted today about the presidential race, skeptical of the promises and positions of Sen. John Kerry and disappointed by the performance of President George W. Bush."
