McCain, Romney trade barbs on Iraq
Some major fireworks on the campaign trail today over Iraq - with Sen. John McCain criticizing Mitt Romney on his position on Iraq.
At a Fort Meyers press conference, McCain linked Romney and Hillary Clinton in the same breath: "If we surrender and wave a white flag, like Senator Clinton wants to do, and withdraw, as Governor Romney wanted to do, then there will be chaos, genocide, and the cost of American blood and treasure would be dramatically higher."
At another press conference in Land O' Lakes, Romney fired back: "I don’t know why he’s being dishonest. To say I have a specific date is simply wrong and it's dishonest"
Romney went on, demanding McCain say sorry: "He should apologize. "
"It's fine for him to express his view on different topics. I know he’s trying desperately to change the topic from the economy and try to get back to Iraq. But to say something that’s not accurate is simply wrong."
And just moments ago, McCain's communications director Jill Hazelbaker issued a statement on Romney's "secret timetables for withdrawal from Iraq,"
Said Hazelbaker:
"Mitt Romney's position on the war in Iraq has been a study in flexibility. Like every other issue of importance in this race, Mitt Romney has changed his position."
Stay tuned...

Mr. McCain is Mr. Bush's apologist on Operation Iraqi Quagmire ... which had nothing to do with the security of our nation.

I can't believe McCain would stoop so low. His comments are clearly out of desperation. Romney has been very supportive of the Iraq War despite governing a very liberal state.
I support Mitt Romney and here's why. He's a truly fiscal conservative. He governed in a very liberal state and still didn't raise taxes. He turned many businesses around, proving himself to be a savvy businessman. Also, let's not forget the 2002 Winter Olympics. Through his efforts the games ended with a surplus of $56 million. That from being short $397 million.
In Massachusetts as governor he erased the $3 billion deficit without raising taxes. Unemployment fell from 5.7 to 4.9 percent.
On matters of illegal immigration, Romney is tougher than McCain, Rudy, or Huckabee. He had 30 state troopers trained to arrest illegal immigrants in the state. He supports securing the borders without giving illegals amnesty.
On national security, Romney believes that "Fundamentally, the most important thing you can do to secure this homeland is to keep a bomb from going off," Romney points out. "And the only way you can do that effectively is through intelligence work and counterterrorism. And that means more FBI agents, more careful screening, more tracking of people who represent potential threats."
He is a social conservative, believing that marriage should be between one man and one woman.
So please join this Virginian in supporting Mitt Romney, a candidate who understands the economy like the back of a hand. In these times we need the experience he has to offer. He's a candidate that will be tough on illegal immigration, as well as increasing efforts to protect Americans from terrorists. Romney is man of faith. A man of leadership.

MITT ROMNEY IS THE BEST FOR PRESIDENT!
McCain is a desperate old man; whose KNOWS that his own home state will NEVER want him back!
He is desperate to win; because he knows his political career is over if he does not!
McCain's "straight talk" is nothing but lies! Lies of desperation!

NO ONE RESPECTS McCAIN.
HE HAS STABBED TOO MANY REPUBLICANS IN THE BACK!
McCain-Feingold — the most brazen frontal assault on political speech since Buckley v. Valeo.
McCain-Kennedy — the most far-reaching amnesty program in American history.
McCain-Lieberman — the most onerous and intrusive attack on American industry — through reporting, regulating, and taxing authority of greenhouse gases — in American history.
McCain-Kennedy-Edwards — the biggest boon to the trial bar since the tobacco settlement, under the rubric of a patients’ bill of rights.
McCain-Reimportantion of Drugs — a significant blow to pharmaceutical research and development, not to mention consumer safety.
And McCain’s stated opposition to the Bush 2001 and 2003 tax cuts was largely based on socialist, class-warfare rhetoric — tax cuts for the rich, not for the middle class. The public record is full of these statements. Today, he recalls only his insistence on accompanying spending cuts.
As chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, McCain was consistently hostile to American enterprise, from media and pharmaceutical companies to technology and energy companies.
McCain also led the Gang of 14, which prevented the Republican leadership in the Senate from mounting a rule change that would have ended the systematic use (actual and threatened) of the filibuster to prevent majority approval of judicial nominees.

McCain HAS VOTED TO GIVE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY AWAY TO ILLEGAL ALIENS!
"straight-talk" McCain did vote to give your benefits to illegal aliens. So kiss those social security benefits goodbye! There won’t be enough for YOU, after McCain gives 'AMNESTY TO ILLEGAL ALINES!"
Posted by: CHRIS | January 26, 2008 at 04:30 PM
McCain has finally stooped to blatent liar in his pathetic campaign. He thinks he can get votes by taking a good idea of Mitt Romney and making it look like a democratic disaster. Everyone accuses Mitt Romney of changing positions just to get votes, well, McCain is the one trying to change his positions. Plus McCain has his own problems. "Doesn't support Bush tax cuts, don't make them permanent, ok....well i guess we can make them permanent." C'mon McCain, face it, you are going to lose to Mitt in Florida and Mitt will win the nomination. I know the people of Florida are not stupid enough to believe the lies of this man.

John McCain is desperately trying to shift attention away from the economy because Governor Mitt Romney is an expert on economic issues and the voters want a president who can save our economy. If the voters focus on the economy, Romney will win easily. So McCain is desperately trying to divert everyone's attention with false and misleading distortions.
McCain has always been a cheap demagogue. This afternoon, McCain accused Mitt Romney of betraying American servicemen and women. What an ugly and vicious accusation.
Who REALLY betrayed us on Iraq? McCain asked Democrat John Kerry if he could run with him for vice president in 2004. Here's what Kerry said about McCain asking to run for vice president on the Democrat ticket:
CNN's SUZANNE MALVEAUX: "In an online interview, Kerry says Senator John McCain approached him about being his running mate…." (CNN's "The Situation Room," 4/3/07)
And when asked about it, McCain admitted that he wanted to run with the leftwing Kerry:
SEN. JOHN MCCAIN: "John Kerry is a very close friend of mine. We've been friends for years. Obviously, I would entertain it." (ABC's "Good Morning America," 3/10/04)
IF MCCAIN WAS SO COMMITTED TO VICTORY IN IRAQ, WHY WAS HE WILLING TO RUN FOR VICE PRESIDENT WITH KERRY WHO HAS ALWAYS FAVORED TOTAL SURRENDER? MCCAIN IS A PHONY OPPORTUNIST!

John Mccain seems to have developed an undercover/secret agenda on giving away the U.S to illegal aliens. His record shows he did absolutely "NADA" on securing his home state of Arizona. Look at California's bancrupcy and you'll know that Arizona is not far behind. The illegal alien problem is draining hospitals, schools and welfare programs that were once viable. Now there's major uncertainty....let alone a language issue. Come on, Mccain is a throw-back who does not see what the real issues are. Wake up Florida and see that Mccain ability to operate realistically is limited.

There are many reasons not to vote for Mitt Romney, but the main reason is he does not deserve to have the honor of being the Commander and Chief of the Armed Services.
As the Vietnam War raged in the 1960s, Mitt Romney received a deferment from the draft as a Mormon "minister of religion" for the duration of his missionary work in France, which lasted two and a half years. Before and after his missionary deferment, Romney also received nearly three years of deferments for his academic studies. When his deferments ended and he became eligible for military service in 1970, he drew a high number in the annual lottery that determined which young men were drafted. His high number ensured he was not drafted into the military.
Many people did not serve for various reasons some due to personal beliefs, and they stuck by their beliefs - that's okay. But according to the Boston Globe, June 24, 2007 "Mormon church obtained Vietnam draft deferrals for Romney, other missionaries" Romney was quoted as saying, he would have served if he had been drafted.
"I really don’t recall thinking about political positions when I was knocking at the door in France" as a missionary, Romney said. "I was supportive of my country. I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam."
If he longed to serve, why didn't he just volunteer? Nothing was stopping him, but himself.
Now he wants to raise the education benefits for kids to enlist. Again, the middle class and poor will be the ones sacrificing for our country. The enlist age as been increased to 42, so for all who support Romney, the recruiters are waiting for you. Be real men and woman, stop letting our kids fight your battles - time for you to step up to the plate. Both my husband and I are veterans, and have served our country.

McCain Means: Amnesty, Taxes, Liberal Judges, First Amendment Erosion, Free Trade Dogma, War
By Patrick J. Buchanan
January 24, 2008
"In 2004, the voters of Arizona, by 56 percent to 44 percent, enacted Proposition 200, requiring proof of citizenship before an individual may vote or receive state benefits. Forty-six percent of Hispanics voted for Prop. 200, giving the lie to those who say Hispanics support the illegal invasion of their country.
Over 190,000 Arizonans petitioned to put Prop. 200 on the ballot. As it simply required proof of citizenship before receiving the benefits and privileges of citizenship, who could oppose it?
Answer: the entire GOP congressional delegation, led by Sen. John McCain.
This is the same John McCain who battled the border fence and colluded with Teddy Kennedy on the amnesty bill rejected by Congress last year after a national uproar.
Bottom line: If the presidential race is between Hillary and Amnesty John, the border security battle is over and lost. As Laura Ingraham asks, "If Congress passes McCain-Kennedy in 2009, would President McCain sign it?"
For conservatives, the stakes could not be higher.
For on the great controversies, McCain has sided as often with the
Democrats and the Big Media that pay him court as with conservatives."

Amnesty John

"In Saturday's debate, John McCain called anyone accusing him of supporting amnesty a "liar." Actually, he wasn't bold enough to make the accusation directly, instead cravenly quoting his most notable supporter: "Joe Lieberman said, John McCain has never supported amnesty, and anybody says that he does is a liar, is lying."
Since McCain has accused me (among others) of lying, let's see where the real deception is."

Here is Romney's actual conservative record:
---In the four balanced budgets he signed into law, Governor Romney used the line-item veto or program reduction power to cut spending by nearly $1 Billion. Over the course of four budgets, Governor Romney made over 300 line-item reductions, 350 line-item eliminations and struck language 150 times.
--- When Gov Romney took office in Massachusetts, he inherited a $2 billion deficit. While in office, he turned the $2 billion into a surplus----WITHOUT raising taxes.
---Gov Romney solved the health care crisis in Massachusetts----and his plans are still used today. He did this by using the free market and competition---and without raising taxes.
--- Gov. Romney was instrumental in passing a bill abolishing a retroactive capital gains tax in the state that would have forced nearly 50,000 taxpayers to pay an additional $200 million in state taxes and fees
--- 4 years ago --- before the illegals marched in our streets --- Romney opposed a bill that would have allowed illegal aliens to get driver’s licenses. "Those who are here illegally should not receive tacit support from our government that gives an indication of legitimacy," the governor said.(Scott S. Greenberger, "Romney Stand Dims Chances Of License For Undocumented," The Boston Globe, 10/28/03)
--- Romney vetoed a bill in 2004 that would have permitted illegal aliens to pay the same in-state tuition rate paid by citizens at public colleges and universities in Massachusetts.
--- Romney vetoed the bill providing state funding for human embryonic stem cell research
--- Romney vetoed a bill that provided for the "morning after pill" without a prescription because it is an abortifacient and would have been available to minors without parental notification and consent
--- He vetoed legislation which would have redefined Massachusetts longstanding definition of the beginning of human life from fertilization to implantation
--- Governor Romney strongly supported a successful ballot initiative that replaced the state's bilingual program with English immersion.(Romney Vows to Protect English Immersion Law, May 1, 2003)
--- Governor Romney demonstrated his commitment to school-choice by vetoing a bill that would have canceled funding for Massachusetts' charter-school program.(Romney to Veto Charter School Moratorium, June 23, 2004)
--- He supported parental notification laws and opposed efforts to weaken parental involvement
--- He fought to promote abstinence education in public school classrooms with a program offered by faith-based Boston group Healthy Futures to middle school students.
---Governor Romney filed and signed into law the most significant expansion of military benefits in recent years. The new law reduced to zero the cost members of the Massachusetts National Guard must pay to attend public colleges and universities, increased twenty-fold the death benefit paid to families of members killed in the line of duty, created a new annuity benefit for Gold Star spouses and boosted the amount paid to Gold Star parents.(Romney Signs Legislation Expanding Military Benefits, November 11, 2005)

VOTE FOR ROMNEY!!
For those of you who want to see the madness of the illegal invasion and Mexico's interference in our laws/country ended, Romney is the candidate to do it!!! He is has been endorsed by Tom Tancredo---as well as many others---as the BEST candidate to do the job!!!
While Romney was Governor of Massachusetts----he stopped illegals from getting drivers' licenses, he stopped illegals from getting instate tuition, he gave the police the authority to assist ICE with arresting/deporting illegals!!

Vets for McCAIN. McCain is absolutely right to challenge Romney on foreign policy. In the general election, who knows what position Romney would take or what polls will determine his stances; he's flip-flopped on so many issues. I could care less if Romney was a successful CEO. He has been pampered his entire life, probably inherited millions - which makes it a lot easier to succeed in business. Managing a company is not the same as running a country, anymore than a CEO could be a general of an army. Romney has no foreign experience, has never served this country, and doesn't have McCain's leadership skills or character. McCain doesn't take polls to craft his stances on issues, he stands on principle. That is why he is the only GOP candidate who can win in the general.

Wow, the Romney attack dogs are out in force. It's surprising how many people have Mitt-blinders on in this race and were born (politically speaking) yesterday. I actually agree with many of Mitt's positions, but the fact that so many people think he's the conservative candidate is hysterical. He's got the 2nd most liberal lifetime record of anyone in this race, after Guiliani, and the Press have indeed given Mitt a pass on pointing that little irony out. McCain and Huckabee are the middling conservatives (exceptions to their party line come on different issues). Thompson was just slightly more conservative than those two. Paul is libertarian and isolationist, so he's orthogonal to these folks. And the race hasn't had a extreme conservative contender since Brownback dropped out (oh, wait, and who did he endorse? ... John McCain). But, go ahead, believe Mitt is the conservative you already dreamed about; he will be... as long as you are the one whose favor he's currying at the moment.
But please, for the future of the Republican party, please tone down the anti-Hispanic prejudice, all you followers of Coulter, Malkin, and Limbaugh. That will render us the minority party for sure.

Most of the comments on here seem to be posted by people who are angry with McCain for not hating Hispanics as much as they do.
I find it amusing (to say the least) that so many people blame illegal immigrants for "draining" Social Security and welfare programs when 1) the only people you see WORKING in restaurants, agriculture, construction, landscaping, etc. are those same pesky illegals, and 2) Big Business and the super-wealthy are using America as their own personal trough (I refer you to David Cay Johnston's book, Free Lunch: How the Wealthiest Americans Enrich Themselves at Government Expense (and Stick You with the Bill).
In a recent interview, Mr. Johnston said: "We have created in the United States, largely in the last thirty years, a whole series of programs — a few of them explicit, many of them deeply hidden — that take money from the pockets of the poor and the middle class and upper middle class and funnel it to the wealthiest people in America. And among the biggest recipients of these subsidies are the wealthiest family America, the Waltons; George Steinbrenner; Donald Trump; a whole host of healthcare billionaires. And these are policies that either have not been reported on or the news reporting on them generally has not informed people about what they really are."
Hm. To me, that seems way more draining than the supposed bloodsucking these pesky illegals are accused of.
Plus, really: how much actual documented proof do we have that it's illegal immigrants who are "draining Social Security," etc.? Sounds like a load of hot air to me, since no one's coming forth with any actual, verifiable facts & figures.
I could be wrong, but it seems to me that most of the posters on this page feel they won't be able to flourish under a less "Beyond Thunderdome" type society as might come about if McCain were president - they seem terrified to have to operate with a greater level of decency & compassion towards their fellow human beings, instead of giving full rein to their pig-ass instincts of greed; obviously, sharing with others (as Christ repeatedly tells us to do) is not on this bunch's agenda, which makes them doubly hypocritical: don't most conservatives consider or align themselves with Christianity? Well, what kind of Christianity is that - the kind that brands our less-fortunate brethren as bloodsucking scabs (while at the same time employing them for all the crappy menial jobs no one else will do for the same insultingly low pay)? I mean, if Jesus Christ were here today, on CNN & ABC & Fox News, etc., what would he be telling us? Would he really be telling us to kick/keep out those who're less fortunate than we are? Would he tell us to hoard our wealth? To NOT share? I'd love to hear an argument to the contrary, that Christ would actually tell anyone not to share - no, really: I'd gloriously welcome a cogent, well-reasoned argument for a state of affairs in the world such that Christ would actually tell us NOT to share...

It shouldn't be surprising that John Mccain has decided to stab a fellow Republican in the back. He's been doing it for years. Nominating John Mccain will rsult in the biggest landslide defeat in 30 years. Mccain only wins in states that Democrats are allowed to vote in Republican primaries. These democrats have no intention of votin for Mccain in the General ELection. Mitt Romney is a business minded republican, who's private sector experience will help us get the economy to expand. Time.com, NRO, The NY Times, and the AP have written that Senator John McCain lied today. Honor is no longer part of McCain's character. He lied, and then used our troops to back up his lies. He should be ashamed of himself. He owes all republicans an apology and to our troops, but mostly to Governor Romney. How shameful Governor Crist sold out to the McCain lies. Maybe the Miami Herald should stop trying to rig the election for McCain and print the AP column that lets the world know that McCain lied to America, but most importantly to our men and women in the military.

"John McCain is Bob Dole minus the charm, conservatism and youth. Like McCain, pollsters assured us that Dole was the most "electable" Republican. Unlike McCain, Dole did not lie all the time while claiming to engage in Straight Talk." --Ann Coulter
"If nominated, John McCain will destroy the Republican Party."- Rush Limbaugh
"Florida will be the beginning of the end of Juan McLame's career of fighting for amnesty, teaming up with liberals against tax cuts, giving your social security away to illegals and being the single biggest backstabber to the conservative movement."- Me
Let us count McCain’s “conservative credentials”:
-he wrote the bill granting amnesty to illegal immigrants (co-sponsored by Ted Kennedy)
-he voted to give your social security money to illegal immigrants
-he voted against the Bush tax cuts multiple times (he has since flip-flopped and has campaigned as a lifelong tax-cutter)
-he routinely engages in Democratic class warfare against big companies in America
-as recently as December 2007 he admitted “he does not know the economy very well” and needed to get better at it
-he wrote the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that was declared to be an unconstitutional infringement of the 1st Amendment (co-sponsored by ultra-liberal Democrat Russ Feingold)
-he was called the “worst 2nd amendment candidate” by the president of the NRA
-wrote a bill (co-sponsored by his buddy Lieberman) imposing a massive tax on energy which, according to the Heritage Foundation, would drastically raise the price of gasoline and put many US companies out of business
-supports radical global warming legislation which involved him voting with every Democrat
-he joined forces with Democrats (“Gang of 14”) to block the Senate Republican’s attempt to confirm conservative, strict constructionist judges
-he joined liberals to fight against a federal marriage amendment supporting the institution of traditional marriage
-campaigning in 2000, he famously described Christian leaders as “agents of intolerance”
-he filed an amicus brief against pro-life advocates in Wisconsin
-he met with leading Democrats in 2004 to discuss the possibility of being John Kerry’s Vice-President
-with most of these positions, unfortunately, McCain hasn’t flip-flopped and vows to fight for these liberal causes as president
-if I wanted to elect a Democrat, I would vote for Hillary or Obama
Let us now look at some of his endorsements:
-New York Times
-Geraldo Rivera
-Joe Lieberman
-Bill and Hillary Clinton
-nearly every member of the liberal media (most Newspapers have endorsed him for this very reason, phrasing his strength as an ability to “attract the support of liberals”)
If you are a Republican, do not let the most liberal elements of the media tell you who to vote for and who is “electable”. Electability polls fluctuate wildly every week (+16 this very week in favor of Romney). A recent example: Bob Dole was considered far and away the “most electable” Republican because he was respected by Democrats and because of his military service.
Voters in Florida and around the country, if you are a conservative, consider whether McCain’s career record of liberal positions and ineptitude is actually the best you can hope for. Consider if he is the most electable candidate even if many prominent conservatives have vowed to “sit out” this election if he’s the nominee.
Spread the word to other conservatives before the liberals on TV and in the newspapers steal this election away from the conservative movement (lower taxes, stronger families, stronger military, no amnesty).

1. John McCain is a divisive figure. He would like to legalise illegal aliens, grant them amnesty and would like to see family reunion programs that will do untold harm to the fabric of the U.S.
2. The very left-wing John McCain worked together with his best buddy Teddy Kennedy to grant freedom for illegal aliens.
3. John McCain supported the bombing of so many innocent Serb men, women and children.
4. John McCain supports the creation of a Muslim terrorist state in the heart of Europe, an Albanian Muslim terror state; he supports the Albanian Muslims terrorists against the heroic Serbs.
5. John McCain will be a disaster for the U.S. He is an utter disgrace, as someone who is very anti-Israel and praised Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton’s foreign policy initiatives (at a 2001 debated in Iowa), which have done untold harm to the U.S. and Israel.
6. John McCain is such a phoney, fake figure – not a conservative or a real Republican, but a very old liberal politician.
7. John McCain is much like Barack Hussein Obama and Hilary Rodam Clinton in his political, social and economic views.
