Looking to quash any suggestions that national Democrats don't have their eyes on three South Florida House races, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and four top allies have dashed off letters of support to three Miami Democrats seeking to oust three Republican incumbents.
The letter comes after a Miami Herald story detailed how Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Kendrick Meek have said they're staying out of the races because they're friends with the GOP'ers - Reps. Lincoln and Mario Diaz-Balart and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
That decision infuriated Dade Democrats and created a firestorm on left-leaning blogs. So on Friday, Pelosi, joined by Democratic Caucus chair Rahm Emanuel and others, sent a vote of confidence to the three Democrats: Raul Martinez, Joe Garcia and Annette Taddeo.
Wasserman Schultz, who has told the party that another member of Congress should coordinate the local races, said Friday she encouraged the Democratic leadership team to send the letter.
''As a chair of the DCCC Red to Blue program, I have made clear to our Democratic leadership throughout this election season that the DCCC should be involved in these races,'' she said.
