McCain hits Obama with Rev. Wright in Florida

Talking to reporters before a fundraiser at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Republican John McCain seized on Democrat Barack Obama's remark on FOX News this morning that his controversial pastor was a "legitimate political issue.''

"If he believes that, then it will probably be a political issue,'' McCain said, according to his campaign.

Referring to some newly released sermons by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, McCain added: I saw yesterday some additional comments that have been revealed by Pastor Wright, one of them comparing the United States Marine Corps with Roman legionnaires who were responsible for the death of our Savior. I mean being involved in that -- it's beyond belief. And then of course saying that Al Qaeda and the American Flag were the same flags.

"So I can understand -- I can understand why the American people are upset about this. I can understand that Americans viewing these kinds of comments are angry and upset, just like they viewed Senator Obama's statements about why people turn to their faith and their values. He believes that it's out of economic concerns, when we all know that it's out of fundamental belief, fundamental faith in this country and its values and its principles. Again, Senator Obama is out of touch.''

Obama's campaign spokesman, Hari Sevugan, responded: "By sinking to a level that he specifically said he'd avoid, John McCain has broken his word to the American people and rendered hollow his promise of a respectful campaign. With each passing day, John McCain acts more and more like someone who's spent twenty-six years learning the divisive, distracting tactics of Washington.  That's not the change that the American people are looking for.''

Wright resurfaced in the news a couple days ago following his exclusive interview with PBS'  Bill Moyers. Watch part of the interview here:

why are you so surprised.
it is bad enough that Obama respects this man
It is more stupid that you are complaining about the comments about it. If he did not have the forsight about this he does not have the forsight for the real big issues.

So dumb

Only Barack Obama can launch negative attacks in his opinion. When someone points out that he is clueless and has a racist and anti-american preacher who even he said is fair game but then calls those people underhanded is stupid. I know liberals want it both ways but Barack Obama should just give up by the time November comes around I'm sure he not only won't be President but hopefully he has resigned as a Senator.
