Rubio vs Tebow: a play-by-play account

House Speaker Marco Rubio had a second chance to redeem himself after last session when he bobbled (but caught) a pass from Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino.

This time around Rubio faced Heisman Trophy Tim Tebow - quarterback at Rubio's undergraduate alma mater, the University of Florida. Tebow was in town to receive praise from the Legislature and Gov. Charlie Crist.

I sir have a contract with Nike, that contract prohibits me from participating in any unsanctioned sporting events," Rubio said to Rep. Dan Gelber's motion to have Rubio catch a throw from Tebow.

After taking off his navy blue blazer, and stretching out, Rubio finally caught Tebow's first soft pass, but dropped the second throw- to the jeers of the House representatives (Update: Rubio staffers would like it noted for the record that he DID catch the third and final throw making him 2-1 for the day.)

Tebow also traded barbs with Rep. Will Weatherford, whose little brother is FSU quarterback Drew Weatherford.

"With no offense to Mr. Weatherford hopefully we can do it again," Tebow said referring to the Gators 2006 National Championship win. "We are looking forward to our next trip to Tallahassee."

A resolution was named in Tebow's honor in the House, and in the Senate he was awarded the Medallion of Excellence.
