NY trip for Crist includes fundraiser for Rome's fav charity

Gov. Charlie Crist has jam-packed his trip to New York this week: a GOP fundraiser on Wednesday night, a ceremonial bill-signing at the New York Stock Exchange Thursday morning and a celebrity fundraiser for the charity close to the heart of his girlfriend, Carol Rome, Thursday night.

The bill the governor signed is SB 2310, which allows the state to use its pension fund to invest up to $1.95 billion in technology and alternative energy, life sciences and aerospace. Included in the entourage to New York, were sponsors of the bill, Sen. Jeremy Ring, a Margate Democrat, and Rep. Frank Attkisson, a Kissimmee Republican, director of the governor's tourism and trade office, Dale Brill, and Mark Wilson, president of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

The charity, ARTrageous, benefits foster children in New York City through the Edwin Gould Services for Children by auctioning off the artwork of children and donated artists. Tickets to the event, to be held at New York landmark Cipriani Wall Street, go from $2,500 per pair to $100,000 for a sponsorship. Rome, who lives on Fisher Island in Miami, was an honorary chair of the event last year with her former husband, Todd.

Sounds like a big deal - when was the last time Florida had a bill signing at the New York Stock Exchange?
