McCain: Ted Kennedy the "single most effective member of the Senate"

Campaigning in South Florida as news broke that Sen. Edward Kennedy has been been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, John McCain offered support and praise to the Massachusetts Democrat.

"We hope and pray his doctors will be able to effectively treat his condition and that he will experience a full recovery," said McCain, who worked with Kennedy on an immigration bill derided by critics of illegal immigration. "I have described Ted Kennedy as the last lion in the Senate, and I have held that view because he remains the single most effective member of the Senate."
