Not the publicity Obama needs in South Florida
Republican consultant Todd Harris, who's worked for former Gov. Jeb Bush and former presidential candidate Fred Thompson, is in town tonight for a bi-partisan AIPAC forum at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood.
For his part, Harris plans to raise pointed questions about Democrat Barack Obama's commitment to the Jewish community, noting his his former pastor's criticism of Israel and ties to pro-Palestinian leaders in his hometown of Chicago. "I'm going to lay waste to him," quipped the elbow-throwing political operative. "There's not just one thing, but it all creates a mosaic that I think is very troubling for a lot of Jewish voters."
Nonsense, says U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler of Boca Raton, a staunch defender of Israel and Obama's campaign chairman in the state of Florida. More on the congressman's efforts to tout Obama's "perfect record'' on Israel here.
The Jewish vote can't be underestimated in the 2008 election. Harris pointed to five toss-up states in the general election -- Florida, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Wisconsin -- where the Jewish community is larger than the margin of victory for John Kerry or President Bush in 2004.

Obama won't say it, but this effort by Harris is a smear. For another antidote read Obama's interview now on The Atlantic website. Pretty convincing.
