Robaina's Condo bill clears through Crist
Legislators may remember it as the 96-page bill that took more than two hours to read in full during a tense House stand off earlier in the session. Luckily it didn't take that long for Gov. Charlie Crist to grace his signature on Rep. Julio Robaina's condo association bill, which aims to protect condo owners. against sometimes unruly boards. The measure was carried in the Senate by Sen. Alex Villalobos, a Miami Republican.
Just last week, a Pompano Beach man was shot 11 times by SWAT officers, after he held the staff of his condo's management company hostage for an hour.
"Sorry Ma. Could not handle these condo people,'' Patrick Dellisanti wrote in a suicide note to his mother. Police say Dellisanti owed more than $3,000 in back assessments and dues on his condo. He called the workers ''scum,'' and wrote that they "should not be working at my condo.'
