Garcias and Martinezes get confusing for NYT mag

The New York Times Sunday Magazine is running a piece on Raul Martinez's and Joe Garcia's campaigns to oust Republican brothers Lincoln and Mario Diaz-Balart -- complete with a slide show that mixes up the two Democrats. Oops.

The gaffe was caught by a Miami Beach-based blog Thursday, and the mistake was still in the slide show Friday.

The story, "Will Little Havana Go Blue?," wonders whether a younger, more diverse generation of Cubans will leave the Republican party en masse: "Today, and quite suddenly, that unwavering support for Republicans is no longer a given," article author David Rieff writes.

The Times interviewed Garcia, Martinez and pols on both sides of the aisle, including Republican Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio and State Rep. David Rivera -- but not the Diaz-Balarts. Mario declined requests from a "left-wing" paper and Lincoln didn't reply, the article says.

David Rivera is against travel to Cuba but he has family members that travel to the island all the time.

So what. Most Cuban-American families in S.Fl do too.
