Maybe Miami Mayor Manny Diaz shouldn't be playing so hard to get. He got bumped tonight from the podium at the Democratic National Convention, though a party official cited a "scheduling conflict,'' not the mayor's refusal to offer Barack Obama his endorsement.
As president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Diaz was slated to speak at 5 p.m. mountain time, right before a video made by Gabrielle Grossman of New Hampshire, described as "U2 mamma for Obama.'' Hardly a prime-time slot, but nevertheless a chance for Diaz to appear on national television.
Eric Jotkoff, a spokesman for the Florida Democratic Party, said Diaz will speak at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
