GOP women in the trenches

MINNEAPOLIS -- Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer said he wants female delegates to dominate the Florida section of the convention floor when vice presidential contender Sarah Palin goes on stage tonight. Several female Florida delegates are sporting "54%'' rhinestone pins on their lapel to tout the outsized influence women will have on the election

But when it comes to their representation in the Florida delegation, women make up less than 30 percent. Today, the lineup of speakers to the Florida delegation has been all men.

Still, the women here are fired up about Palin and their role in the election. They gave themselves a standing ovation at a delegate luncheon today and will be honored at a reception later this afternoon.

"We're going to show the nation, that as Gov. Crist says, ladies first,'' Greer said.
