McCain: Drill new wells off shore and drill them now!

ST PAUL - The last night of the GOP convention is ending with the same rallying cry that has echoed here for days, "Drill, baby, drill."

The cheers came as John McCain promised "the most ambitious national project in decades.

"We are going to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much," he said to cheers. "We will attack the problem on every front. We will produce more energy at home. We will drill new wells offshore, and we'll drill them now. We will build more nuclear power plants. We will develop clean coal technology. We will increase the use of wind, tide, solar and natural gas. We will encourage the development and use of flex fuel, hybrid and electric automobiles."

Amen. The right choice for energy independence is "all of the above", plus drilling in ANWR!
It sure beats having properly inflated tires.

Republicans want to put oil rigs 50 miles off Florida's coast. That puts our state at terrible risk. The real republican mantra is RUIN FLORIDA NOW, RUIN FLORIDA NOW!

John

The Gulf is full of oil rigs that have been battered by major hurricanes and no oil was spilled..NO ONE can see an oil rig that's 50 miles from shore.

DRILL BABY DRILL

Big Oil will drain the life from people and destroy florida's tourism, will just take one big spill, as if the sewer dumped is not bad enough. Mcain/palin have no real ideas, just fear and rhetoric desigined to pad the pockets of big corporations

Get the oil out of the ground and then China and India can buy it out from under our noses (right? we haven't "nationalized" our energy resources). Then they can burn it up inefficiently and produce jobs in their countries.

Looks like this is going to happen. Please, at least "earmark" some of the royalty and license revenues for a catastrophe fund.

Shane

We won't see the effects of drilling on our shores for 10 years. Plus, there is only an estimated 10 years worth of oil on US land.

So yeah let's drill! By the time we can use it we will probably have another renewable energy source. So in ten years fuel will be super cheap and no one will need it. Basic economics. We should take the crude oil we drill and sell it overseas. That's the only way it will actually benefit us.
